week 4- terms and conditions

Interesting points from the 5.287 word terms and conditions of NewNowNext.com are:
  • if you are under 16, and not residing in the US, you should 'leave the website immediately'
  • The website is Owned by Logo which is owned by MTV which is owned by Viacom
  • You have to read the terms and conditions frequently because they can change at any time, effective immediately. You automatically agree to them when you use the site.
  • You can be redirected to advertisers or sponsers at any time, and any interaction that will follow, NewNowNext is not liable for.
  • Logo has a shop that will sell things, but is not responsible for any errors or false sales made through this shop

Case Study - Ownership

The website I picked for my case study is NewNowNext.com. This is a website focuses on (gay) popculture.
The website is owned by Logotv- a small American LGBT tv channel. Therefore, a lot of the published articles are related to Logotv's most popular program; Rupaul's Drag Race.
Logotv itself is owned by Viacom International- which means they also own NewNowNext. This is only mentioned in small writing at the bottom of the page, but NewNowNext gives away a few hints about their owners- for example, they plug websites in a sidecolom titled 'stuff we like'. One of the websites that stood out as very random and unrelated was an MTV related website. This is obviously owned by Viacom International and that, therefore, offers the explanation as to why it is plugged on NewNowNext.
